A list of some watercolor tools and techniques that may be helpful to learn about:

  • – Watercolor paints – Watercolor paints are a type of paint made from pigment suspended in a water-soluble binder. They come in a variety of colors and can be mixed together to create new shades and hues. Watercolor paints are typically sold in tubes or pans and are applied to paper using a brush.
  • – Brushes – Brushes are an essential tool for watercolor painting. They come in a range of sizes and shapes, and the type of brush you use will depend on the effect you want to achieve. Round brushes are good for detailed work and line work, while flat brushes are good for large areas and washes.
  • – Watercolor paper – Watercolor paper is a type of paper specifically designed for use with watercolor paints. It is heavier and more absorbent than regular paper, which helps to prevent the paper from warping or wrinkling when wet. Watercolor paper comes in a range of sizes and textures, and you can choose the one that best fits your needs.
  • – Palette – A palette is a flat surface used for mixing paints. Palettes can be made from a variety of materials, such as plastic, wood, or ceramic, and they come in a range of shapes and sizes. Watercolor palettes often have shallow wells or cups for holding individual paints.
  • – Pencils – Pencils are a useful tool for sketching out a drawing before you start painting. You can use a range of pencils, from very soft (6B) to very hard (6H), depending on the effect you want to achieve. Pencils are also useful for adding detail and texture to your painting.
  • – Eraser – An eraser is a useful tool for correcting mistakes or removing excess pencil lines from your painting. There are many types of erasers, including kneaded erasers, which can be molded into different shapes, and plastic erasers, which are good for removing hard lines.
  • – Masking fluid – Masking fluid is a special liquid that you can apply to areas of your painting that you want to protect from color. It is usually applied with a brush and can be removed later with an eraser or by rubbing it off with your finger. Masking fluid is a useful tool for creating clean, defined lines or for preserving the white of the paper in specific areas.
  • – Salt – Salt is a simple but effective tool for adding texture to your watercolor paintings. Simply sprinkle a little salt onto wet paint, and the salt will absorb some of the paint and create a mottled, textured effect. You can use any type of salt, from table salt to kosher salt.
  • – Spray bottle – A spray bottle is a useful tool for adding texture and interest to your watercolor paintings. You can use it to spritz water onto wet paint to create a variety of effects, from delicate splatters to larger, more defined drops.
  • – Water container – A water container is an essential tool for watercolor painting. You’ll need a container for rinsing your brushes and for mixing
