“The biggest fear is the fear of failure.” – Gary Young
When did you start taking art classes at The Art Studio NY, and why did you begin to take classes?
I had recently lost my partner and needed something to not only take my mind off things, but also to expand my worldly view of things. I was 59 and never taken any kind of art class since grade school. I first started taking classes in the fall of 2013 with a “Beginner Drawing Class at the Met“.
How have your art classes allowed you to relax and relieve stress?
When I am in my art class, I block out all outside influences and concentrate on what is in front of me. There is a meditative state I achieve while painting that clears my mind.
What makes your experience at The Art Studio NY unique and memorable?
The staff at The Art Studio NY are very nurturing and friendly. There is a genuine interest in what you are creating.
What class/es did you take, and what classes are you currently taking?
After the drawing class, I looked into taking a painting class to learn the basics. I signed up for the Basic Acrylics class with Jake. From there I have been taking the “Next Level“class with either Edward or Jake. At the moment I am taking some time off at the Studio to work on a project at work. But will be back once the project is completed.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your artistic journey?
The satisfaction that comes when you weave through a piece from the spark of an idea to completion.
What fears have you overcome, on and off the canvas, since starting to paint?
The biggest fear is the fear of failure. With life, if you fail, you pick yourself up by the bootstraps and move forward, while on a canvas you realize it’s just paint. You learn from your failures.
