IN THIS BEGINNER ABSTRACT ACRYLIC PAINTING CLASS, YOU WILL:
- Learn the fundamentals of acrylic painting, including brushes, paint, palettes and different paint application techniques
- Master color mixing, including warm and cool colors, tones, values, contrast and color relationships
- Practice expressive brushwork, mark-making and paint application to create movement, texture and visual interest
- Explore layering, glazing, washes and opaque painting techniques to build depth and dimension
- Experiment with palette knives and texture techniques to create dynamic, tactile surfaces
- Learn the fundamentals of composition, including balance, movement, focal points, shape and visual harmony
- Explore geometric and Cubist-inspired abstraction, using shapes, lines, structure and simplified forms
- Create textured abstract paintings using palette knives, layered paint and expressive surfaces
- Explore abstracted landscapes, transforming recognizable places and natural forms into expressive paintings
- Experiment with expressive and intuitive abstraction, using color, gesture, line and mark-making to communicate ideas and feelings

Art Class Materials You Will Need:
- Acrylic Paint Set with the following colors: Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, White, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Black
- Paint Brushes (at least three brushes of varying widths, including a small, medium and large)
- Palette Knife (Triangle tip)
- Paint Palette or Disposable Palette Paper
- 4 canvases or canvas board (stretched, sizes 9” x 12” to 16” x 20”)
- Cup/Jar for Water
- Reusable cloth or paper towels
- Gloss Medium and/or Acrylic Retarder
