OUTDOOR SOCIALLY DISTANCED PROGRAMS
Inclement Weather:
Our goal is to monitor weather and contact families ahead of time should we predict that the outdoor program will be cancelled because of storms. We would like to have the following in place in case there is an unexpected and sudden rain shower or thunderstorm. The best practices below will vary depending on how long a student storm lasts, or how severe a storm is:
- Pack a small, travel size or collapsible umbrella for your child. The umbrella could also be utilized to create shade
- We recommend packing a light plastic garbage bag or tarp to use as ground cover after a rainshower passes
- We have located a number of bridges, underpasses, and overhangs to take shelter underneath should the storm be severe
- If a severe storm persists, we will designate a safe area for child/teen pick-up.
Hot Weather:
We have purposely scouted and chosen areas that will provide shade for our outdoor program. For extra heat relief, we recommend:
- A lightweight, collapsible or travel size umbrella for additional shade.
- A small fan with a mister attachment to help kids stay cool.
- A small bandana or fabric scarf that can be used as a cooling pad when dampened
- Hats and other lightweight, light colored clothing
Additional Items & Recommendations:
- Comfortable footwear
- Plenty of water for drinking. Designate a small amount of water to use for painting
- A comfortable backpack with capacity to carry
- Dividing bundled materials such as paper pads, colored pencils, etc. into smaller portions to alleviate weight of backpacks. For example, pack only 4 sheets of drawing or watercolor paper instead of the entire pad. Pack a handful of colored pencils or crayons
- Food and snacks packed in an insulated lunch bag with ice packs
- A firm surface to draw on
