Jessica Hughes

Studio Coordinator, Children and Adult Art Teacher

Jessica Hughes has been teaching art to all ages for 13 years. While she is originally from Connecticut, she began her teaching career in Massachusetts, where she attended Montserrat College of Art and earned her BFA in Painting. A year after graduating, she attended Salem State University for her Master's in Art Education. During her time at Salem State, she earned representation at a New York City art gallery, and also earned the Certificate of Excellence Award granted to students who went beyond what was expected of them in school. Jessica eventually made her way back to Connecticut, where she worked at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (ACAM) in Ridgefield, as a Museum Attendant and Visitor Experience Assistant. Her experience at the ACAM gave her the tools and skills necessary to go beyond teaching art and gain footing in the background operations of art museums.

Jessica is a mixed-media abstraction artist and her artwork has been exhibited in galleries in Boston, New York City, Salem, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Her artwork focuses on her personal journey living with a learning difference. She uses bright, electric colors in fast movement on paper to recreate a visual experience of what it is like to process language slower than is expected. Jessica believes it's extremely important that all students, regardless of their age, know that they are not limited by disabilities or learning challenges, and her art seeks to reinforce that belief.

Jessica looks forward to meeting new students at The Art Studio NY and she is excited to explore all of what New York City has to offer.
