Imaan Deen

Art Instructor

Imaan Deen is an interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She is passionate about supporting people’s artistic practices, providing them with the space and resources to explore how art can serve them. Creating art has always been her sanctuary. For Imaan, teaching grants her the ability to guide students through their own art-making while developing that sanctuary for themselves.

Imaan wants all of her students, of all ages and levels, total beginners included, to feel confident and safe in her art classes and in the art studio, because she has learned that personal art-making requires bravery. Imaan believes that all people have rich internal worlds, and nurturing an artist in their internal world is reflected in their artwork. Imaan loves creating art like we did when we were children, including using crayons, markers, and finger paint. Children create their own symbology to convey their feelings, thoughts and assumptions about the world. Imaan likes creating unique symbologies that convey complex, “adult” ideas but in the same intuitive, childlike way.

She exhibits her artwork extensively and loves sharing art that often contains secrets. She hides secrets behind imagery, and the more Imaan communicates with her audience, the more the viewers understand her unique language and stories that inspire her art. Imaan majored in Studio Art at New York University where she exhibited in a duo show gay son and thot daughter, myself being the ‘thot daughter’. In her free time, she reads comic books and watches sunsets.
