Ingrid Capozzoli Flinn is a New York City artist and art educator who is originally from the Midwest. With decades of experience working in many artistic media, Ingrid shares her love of art and teaching with all of her students of every age. Ingrid’s goal is for her art studio students to leave each class with the sense that they are not only learning a new skill, but they are also learning how to see and experience the world in a new way. For Ingrid, art is a visual language, and she is passionate about helping students learn how to express themselves using that language. As an Upper West Sider, Ingrid is excited about spending time teaching with The Art Studio NY while working with students in her own New York City neighborhood.

Ingrid’s long-time love of art history naturally extends into her own drawings and paintings, with a focus of the human figure in interior spaces, and her artwork has a particular focus on color, light, form, and space. While she works in traditional artistic media including oil painting and drawing with pencil, she has also experimented with techniques of the Old Masters including silverpoint on prepared paper as well as techniques from other cultures including Japanese Sumi Ink painting. Ever since she was a child, Ingrid was always creative, and she studied classical music, ballet and then discovered her love of visual arts in college and has been doing it ever since.

Ingrid has exhibited her paintings and artwork in art galleries, art centers, and museums including Figureworks, The Painting Center, Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in WI, and recently at Art Lives Here, a brownstone gallery in Harlem, New York City. Ingrid has taught fine arts in colleges, universities, art schools, community programs and with online schools including Pratt Manhattan, Massachusetts College of Art, The University of New Hampshire and Art Institutes International Online. She has a studio practice where she works on paintings and drawings in a large series over extended periods of time in various sizes to explore a singular idea.

Ingrid is most interested in creating artwork that adds beauty to the world, while also creating an extension of the canon of Western Art and expresses something about the human condition. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Boston University.

When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family doing family things like watching movies, trying different ethnic restaurants, and exploring neighborhoods in New York City.
